Yarlington Hall and Bruton

Took my friends Glenys and Pauline on a mystery trip to an open day at Yarlington Hall, Yarlington, Somerset. There was a plant sale and an open gardens so we took the opportunity for lots of photos. We went on to Wincanton hoping to take photos in the catholic church, St Lukes but we were disappointed as there was nothing there for us. Then to Bruton where we snapped to our hearts' content.

Wire figures were made out of chicken wire and were all sold. Made me want a garden to put them in.

This figure was commissioned by the Count de Salis from the lady who made the ones in the first photo.
You will notice the figure at the end of the arch of trees in a later photo. I cut her out and put her on the lawn.
One of the stalls
I think this toilet was for the use of the stall holders but we found it. I liked the paintings in here.
The owner of this dog, very kindly, got him to pose for us.

Artisan's trail and Wiscombe Hill climb

On Saturday 12th May, my friend Susan and I went around the Artisan's trail on the Devon part of the Blackdowns. These are a few photos of the day. We ended up in Culmstock and took the trail along the river Culm to Hunkin wood. It is only 3 miles there and back, on the flat.

This was taken at the Nicola Werner pottery, just outside her studio.

The sign tells us this is an unmetalled road!
This dog enjoyed a quick dip in the river.
I was pleased to spot this thrush singing away above me but unable to get a sharp image.

On Sunday, I went with Pauline, Glenys, Martin and Jan to the Wiscombe Hill climb. Lots of old cars racing up the hill. A very enjoyable day.

Somerset floods, Barrington Court and Tintinhull

A few images from a couple of days out this week. On Tuesday, Pauline, Glenys, Susan and I toured around the Somerset levels to view the floods. Lower Maunsel Lock
On the Baltmoor Wall road - one of the flood defences on the levels.
View from near Othery
We spent a lot of time here on the Aller to Othery road. This is where the crane decoys used to be. I have yet to sight the cranes, though, they are in the area.
Glenys and Pauline both in red.
We were returning home and took a road from North Curry towards Taunton, only to turn back at Ham, because of the flood. This motorcylist was not deterred!
On Wednesday we went to see the Anthony Gormley exhibition "Field for the British Isles". This is the first time this exhibition has been exhibited in 3 rooms rather than one space. Unfortunately, I have no images for it as photographs are not allowed. Those pesky phones will be able to sneak photos, though!
