Somerset Wildlife Trust - A day on the River Brue and mouth of the River Parrot

The first boat trip on the River Brue was organised by Nigel Phillips of Somerset Wildlife Trust and held on 30th November 2014.  There were 8 of us on the Orca.  We were all wrapped up for a cold November day, which turned out to be one of the sunniest and warmest day of the month.

I arrived early with Mo, from Taunton.  I heard the swans make a peculiar noise and noticed a dog had entered the water.  I thought that there would be a confrontation but the dog made his way past, even taking time to have a drink.

We left the river Brue and went into the Parrot - on to the Steart breach and then a round trip around Steart island.   A few images below.

And then there were the avocets

Other spots - but not by me- were a short eared owl on the Steart peninsula and pintail by Steart island.  We saw Shelduck, turnstones, dunlin, knot, wigeon, avocets, heron, kingfisher, mallards and others I have probably missed.  A great day out.
