Bempton Cliffs
Drove to Yorkshire on Wednesday 17th June with my friend Pauline. We were staying at AKO B and B in Bempton for 3 nights in order to view the gannets at Bempton Cliffs. We had a good journey and stopped off at the Blacktoft RSPB reserve on the way up. After booking in at Bempton, we had dinner at the golf club - a great view from here and then went on to Flamborough Head for the evening.
Off out on Thursday to the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs. Had a wonderful day here. If you are not into gannets then you might want to stop here. To be happy is to be at Bempton Cliffs. A great atmosphere and lots to see.
A change of memory card and more photos. We stopped for lunch at the visitor centre and then took a walk around the nature trail - plenty of opportunities to see some smaller birds. We were lucky enough to see the barn owl. If flew along the cliffs, unnoticed by most who were looking out to sea.
We were called by Keith, our landlord, in the evening to tell us that a barn owl was flying over the field next to the B & B. Took loads of photos but too dark for me and my lens. We spent Friday morning at Bempton Cliffs. There was less wind so the gannets were not so near the cliffs. Still had a good day taking pics of the smaller birds which have not made it to the blog. In the afternoon we popped into Scarborough.
Pauline and I were up early on Saturday to see if we could catch the barn owl in better light. No show. I went to have a look at the field opposite and spotted a couple of hares. We saw six hares in all.
We then packed the car and drove on to Northumberland, stopping off for a lot of photos in Whitby. I can recommend Ako's Bed & Breakfast. Very comfortable and Keith could not do enough to make sure our stay was a success. http://akosbandb.co.uk/
Pauline and I stopped for a bit at Whitby. Definitely a town to return to.
I will continue our journey in the next post which will be our Northumberland part of the trip.
