Lewis, first week
A gentle crossing over to Tarbert, Harris and I started my visit on Isle of Lewis. On Wednesday Jenny and I went on one of the guided walks over on Butt of Lewis. Guided by the ranger Julie Sievewright who was very informative. This is the first time I have been here when the wind didn't actually blow me off my feet.
This may look like a shed but it is a bothy. It was once, one of the many illegal drinking dens on the island.
The next day, I dashed off to Callanish to get my espresso fix. One of the best coffees available on the island and the cheapest. Of course, I had to snap the stones. Jenny and I took Neve and Mike for a walk at Dal Mor and Dal Beag in the afternoon.
We did our own guided walk to Scalpay lighthouse and stopped off at Scalpay linens on the way back. The lighthouse is being restored but needs lots of funds. An excellent place to walk around. Kept our eyes peeled for marine mammals but not a one.
I went out about 6.20 am and took the photo of these two deer. They have returned to Lochganvich after a fortnight away and now sport a set of antlers. They were quite young when first seen by the locals so may have lost their mum. They seem to like it here. Had to snap Mike and Neve on a walk down to the loch.
The Morrison house - Ghinda
This oyster catcher is one of the birds who 'buzz' the dogs on their walk. The others are a curlew, a sandpiper and a snipe. There is a skylark too but that just does it's singing bit.
A good time was had by all at Uig gala day. Apparently, the people on the boats were treated to a display by a pod of dolphins so worth the long queue.
One of many sheep photos of the visit.
A gentle walk by the river with the dogs and Mick decided to take to the water and climb rocks.
We did spot a seal on the Tolsta head walk. Gulls and great skuas were there too. Plenty of beautiful scenery.
Spot the two picnic tables! They are about an hour in from the start of the walk.
A few photos of the new additon to the Morrison household, to finish off the week - Mick, the very cuddly border collie.
