Liverpool with RPS Visual Art Group

To Liverpool for the 2019 RPS Visual Art weekend.  Easy train journey there and I walked from Lime Street to the Mercure Atlantic where we were staying.  Met the rest of the members at the welcome drink.  Had a presentation by Nat Coalson before dinner and a show and tell of members images after dinner.

Strolled around Liverpool the next day with Carol, Claire and Mark.  Visited both cathedrals and the Baltic Market. Had fun with all the street art.  Our challenge for the weekend was to create 3 images relating to Beatles songs.

I popped out the first afternoon as the sun came out briefly

On Sunday we had a workshop with Iñaki Hernández-Lasa on architectural photography.  Visited the museum and library.

First some long exposure tuition

Presentations in the evening were from  Mark Reeves LRPS who showed us his landscapes in a range of different styles including impressionism, intentional camera movement (ICM), abstraction and minimalism.  Followed by Mark Snowdon ARPS who concentrates on black-and-white analogue photography with medium and large format cameras.

After a break we heard from Carol Emmas who showed us some wonderful abstracts.  Then Iñaki Hernández-Lasa FRPS showed us his Fellowship panel of the Bilbao Guggenheim after many of his brilliant architectural images.

We showed our weekend challenge images after dinner.  Two of mine are above from Saturday.

On Monday Carol, Claire and Mark and I, together with Ray and Viv went to see Another Place by Anthony Gormley.  Buying our tickets at Moorfields we were recommended to get off at Hall Road.  We walked back along the beach to Waterloo.  We were told that a lot of the sculptures had been taken away to be cleaned.  They were nearby so we photographed them before our walk. I was distracted by all the colourful starlings washing themselves.

Most of the sculptures were nearer Crosby beach.  However, the sun was out and it was a lovely walk.  We ended up at the marina pool and found a cafe for lunch.  A short walk afterwards to find the vegan cake shop then caught the train back to Moorfields.  Viv and Ray went off to sort out an earlier train back and the rest of us had an enjoyable time in the Tate.

Heavy rain had started around 3ish so we tried to stay under cover.  Had dinner at BrasCo as they had a good vegan and gluten free menu.

Another great weekend.  All the presentations were excellent, well one could have been shorter.  This was better than my usual 3 out of 4 good ones.  Mercure was comfortable and the food was very good.  Definitely worth returning to Liverpool.  There are more images to be had.

Next trip Madeira this Thursday with Yvette’s Voice of the People choir.
